Everything you need to know about President Obama’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and cost containment can be summed up in two words: Andy Stern. The profligate, corruption-coddling head of the powerful Service Employees International Union was named to the White House debt commission last week. If Obama thinks Stern holds the cure for our government spending woes, you can be certain his latest health care prescription will be fiscal hemlock.

The Albany Times Unions covered the story which ran at 3:00 in the afternoon. Here’s a photo from the protest.

UPDATE: Pennsylvania Union Leader Resigns Amid Criticism for Threatening Legal Action Over Boy Scout’s Volunteerism. Nov 23, 2009 by Diane Mecedo
A union leader in Pennsylvania has resigned after being criticized for threatening legal action over an aspiring Eagle Scout’s volunteer project.
Nick Balzano, president of the Service Employees International Union’s Allentown chapter, submitted an unexpected resignation letter Thursday, along with a few other employees, SEIU spokesman Matt Nerzig told Foxnews.com.

Here’s another great article, along with others on the subject from Michelle Malkin:

My column today provides context for the SEIU bullying of Boy Scouts in Allentown, Pa. As you’ll see, there’s a long history of Big Labor thuggery against volunteers who threaten the union racket. On a related note, be sure to check out the video of Fresno homecare providers exposing how SEIU staff threatened them and changed their ballots to secure a razor-thin advantage in a controversial union election this June. As I’ve been reporting over the last several months, the home health care power grab across the country gives you a glimpse of the SEIU-endorsed Obamacare future.

The Boy Scouts’ motto is “Be Prepared.” Who knew it meant preparing to defend themselves against Purple-Shirted union thuggery over community service? Kids, pay attention. This is a teachable moment for all of you on power, politics, and Big Labor’s culture of corruption.
Thank God For Unions!
Published in November 20th, 2009 Posted by The Equalizer in The Equalizer, UnionsNeed proof that unions have out lived their usefulness? A local municipal employees union is considering filing a grievance because of an Eagle Scout project.
From the Morning Call:
“In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.
Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city’s largest municipal union.
Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.
“We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails,” Balzano told the council.
Balzano said Saturday he isn’t targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city’s decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said “there’s to be no volunteers.” No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.”

Here’s a couple more new articles that have surfaced.
The Politico Gets Played By ACORNSeptember 29th, 2009 by Matthew VadumUnderstanding ACORN’s family tree takes time and a great deal of perseverance but after studying ACORN intensively for more than a year, I think I have a handle on how it works.
The part relevant to our story here today goes like this: *The Working Families Party of New York is an affiliate of both ACORN and SEIU Local 1199, according to current ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis and her protégé Patrick Gaspard. In other words, the Working Families Party is ACORN. There may be fine legal distinctions, they may file disclosure documents with different government agencies, but they are one in the same. I’ve been saying this for the past year and it’s gratifying that people are finally listening. TAKING A CRACK AT ACORN Pointing to a string of probes that ACORN is facing and news reports about the two groups sharing a Nevins Street address in Brooklyn, the suit seeks to flush out the overlap. Critics of the two groups have long complained they work hand in glove — and have found compelling evidence in Brooklyn. “Another organization that helped found and remains closely [allied] with the WFP is the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, commonly known as ACORN,” reads a petition filed in the case, charging that “ACORN not only shares office space with the WFP . . . but Bertha Lewis, the executive director of New York ACORN, is also a state co-chair of the WFP.” The suit goes on to say the WFP “has remained closely” tethered to the group. The court papers cite an exclusive Post story about hidden cameras at the Nevins Street offices capturing ACORN workers counseling a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp on how to buy a home and keep authorities from catching on.

Two leading federal workers unions want lawmakers to keep their hands off the program that provides health-care coverage to federal employees, arguing that any potential merger with a larger public health care program would jeopardize health coverage for federal workers.
(
Consider this: No Federal Government official should be provided any different insurance than is provided to any other citizen through Federal programs. No “Cadillac plans”. If they want better, with their salaries they can certainly afford to buy additional coverage from the private sector. Now that is if you believe they should be provided any insurance visa via the taxpayer to begin with. The Government employee on average makes just shy of $31000 more than his/her private sector counterpart (and It should go without saying that darn near the entire government is unionized). Perhaps this is the biggest issue of all in the healthcare reform debate especially with the fact that government is the only sector actually creating jobs at an average of 10000 per month. We must demand they stop hiring, start purging, and fix this wage disparity by stripping all federal employees of health coverage. They “shall be required” to buy private sector coverage, thereby stimulating the economy and alleviating the taxpayer of their burden on the healthcare system. So says the people ! (Let this serve as a petition seeking redress of these grievances)“The house of representatives…can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as the great mass of society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together. It creates between them that communion of interest, and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyranny.”

Working Family Party (Div of Acorn) in NY having difficultiy in Staten Island NY
Back in July 2009, I wrote about the Working Family Party.
“What does: George Soros, Acorn, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, David Soares (DA of Albany NY State), Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore, Pete Seeger, Eliot Spitzer (ex-governor of NY), Andy Stern (SEIU President), Many other large powerful union’s, Bus tour protest at the homes of AIG, Bank America etc., employee homes, and other well connected powerful people—have in common?
WFP Working Families Party. Nice warm paternalistic name makes you think of mom and apple pie doesn’t it. But Woodrow Wilson (Progressive Era), saw the importance of the kinship of family as a social organization which the State may be regarded in an important sense as an enlarged Family. Father figure come to mind. WFP is a front group for the radical cult ACORN. (DiscoverTheNetworks.org Horowitz) It functions as a political party in New York State and Connecticut and maybe your state too.
WFP’s headquarters is located at the same as ACORN’S national office at 88 Third Ave. in Brooklyn NY. (free republic)”
I included the above just to remind anyone who has forgotten who the WFP is. Well, the WFP seems to be having some current problems, read the NYPOST article included below.

Working Families judge: Get your act together

An irritated judge yesterday slammed the political arm of the Working Families Party for submitting documents late, and he postponed until Feb. 23 a trial over whether campaign-finance laws were skirted.
“The discovery process in this case has been outrageous to date,” state Supreme Court Judge Anthony Giacobbe told WFP’s partner, Data and Field Services, on the second day of the trial on Staten Island.
“No more delays; no more excuses.”
Attorney Randy Mastro, who is suing DFS and the City Council campaign for Debi Rose (D-SI), is accusing DFS of providing services worth more than the roughly $45,000 the campaign paid last year.
WFP endorsed Rose, who defeated incumbent Kenny Mitchell.
DFS attorney Lawrence Mandelker argued the papers were not tardy.
The judge also advised the campaign’s bumbling treasurer, David Thomas, to get his own attorney after he testified Wednesday that he signed an affidavit that he hadn’t read during the campaign.
